A &S Electric’s development over the past four decades reflects a company shaped by continuity, technical capability, and a consistent focus on relationships. Founded in 1981 in Middle Tennessee by Robert Allen, the business began as a family-owned electrical contractor built on craftsmanship and integrity. Today, under its third generation of leadership, it has grown into one of the region’s established commercial and industrial electrical contractors, supporting projects across healthcare, education, municipal facilities, and high-end commercial environments.
The company’s leadership has transitioned steadily over time. Robert Allen led the business until his retirement in 1989, when it passed to his children, Bobby Allen and Elaine Brown. In 2019, the next generation assumed operational leadership, with Bo Allen and Carie Martin guiding the company forward. Despite that evolution, the core principles have remained consistent. As Bo Allen explains, “From the beginning, our mission has been to deliver dependable electrical solutions with the professionalism and quality our clients can trust, while maintaining the family driven values that set us apart.”

From its early years as a smaller contractor, A&S Electric has expanded into a full-service provider, delivering comprehensive electrical packages across a wide range of project types. The company now serves clients and general contractors throughout Middle Tennessee, providing everything from power distribution and lighting to low-voltage systems and fire alarm installations. Its capabilities extend into specialized healthcare environments, including MRI and CT suites, X-ray and radiation-rated areas, med-gas coordination, nurse call systems, UPS infrastructure, generators, and paralleling gear. Design-build and design-assist services form part of its offering, alongside lighting controls, energy-efficient upgrades, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and emergency power solutions.
“What sets us apart is our ability to deliver these services across a wide variety of environments with the same level of precision, reliability, and craftsmanship that our partners have come to expect from A&S Electric,” Allen said. “At the end of the day, what we do is simple: we make buildings function safely, efficiently, and reliably when it comes to their electrical needs. Whether it’s a hospital imaging suite, a new school, a municipal headquarters, or a high-end restaurant, our team delivers the electrical backbone that keeps these spaces operating the way they’re meant to. We take a lot of pride in being the contractor people call when they need the job done right.”
Growth has been a defining feature of the company’s history, but it has been achieved through steady progression rather than rapid expansion. “From a small family operation into a multisector commercial and industrial contractor,” Allen said, describing the company’s evolution. “That evolution didn’t happen overnight; it came from staying consistent, doing quality work, and earning trust project after project.” Alongside this growth, A&S Electric has built long-standing partnerships with general contractors, municipalities, universities, and healthcare systems, with some relationships spanning decades.
Those relationships have enabled the company to take on increasingly complex work while maintaining a consistent delivery standard. “Those relationships mean a lot to us, and they’re a big part of why we’ve been able to take on larger and more complex work,” Allen said. “We’ve completed multiple largescale electrical projects that have helped shape Middle Tennessee, from municipal facilities and educational campuses to healthcare environments and major commercial developments.” For Allen, one of the most significant milestones has been the company’s role in supporting the region’s growth. “Being part of the region’s expansion, helping build the schools, hospitals, public safety facilities, and commercial spaces that serve our community, is something we don’t take for granted.”
The company’s project portfolio reflects both the scale and diversity of its work. At Middle Tennessee State University, A&S Electric completed the full electrical scope on two of the institution’s historic buildings, Rutledge Hall and Kirksey Old Main. Dating back to 1911, the buildings required modernization while preserving their original character. “The MTSU projects have been a really special milestone for us at A&S Electric, Inc.,” Allen said. “These buildings date all the way back to 1911, so being trusted to help modernize them while preserving their character meant a lot to us.” The scope included new power distribution, lighting upgrades, fire alarm systems, and low-voltage infrastructure, bringing the buildings in line with current standards while supporting modern educational use.
In Nashville, the company completed the electrical scope for the Metro Family Justice Center headquarters, a facility designed to support families and individuals across Davidson County. The project required a full electrical package, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm systems, low-voltage infrastructure, solar system connections, and emergency power systems. “We’re really proud of the work our team did on this project. Being part of bringing it to life meant a lot to us,” Allen said. “Projects like this are a great example of what defines A&S Electric: craftsmanship, dependability, and attention to detail.”

Another major undertaking was the expansion of the Wilson County Jail, one of the largest and most complex municipal projects completed by the company. The ground-up build involved extensive coordination, including power distribution, security controls, low-voltage systems, emergency power, and detention-grade lighting. The project also required integration of electronic locks, camera systems, and control room technology. “A project of this size takes a huge amount of coordination and precision,” Allen said. “Our crew delivered, and the results speak for themselves.”
The company has also contributed to the Nashville Soccer Club Training Facility, a large-scale development that includes multiple natural-grass pitches, a performance building, locker rooms, sports medicine and hydrotherapy areas, and administrative spaces. A&S Electric installed the electrical systems across the campus, supporting lighting, data infrastructure, security, and specialized equipment. “[It has] all the technology it takes to support a professional MLS organization,” Allen said. “The finished product is something we’re extremely proud of.”

Healthcare remains a significant area of focus, with Vanderbilt Health representing one of the company’s long-standing partnerships. A&S Electric has completed multiple medical-grade installations for the organization, including MRI suites, CT rooms, X-ray facilities, radiation-rated environments, nurse call systems, and generator infrastructure. “Healthcare work is high stakes, and they expect a level of craftsmanship and reliability that aligns perfectly with who we are as a company,” Allen said. “Our team shows up, does the job right, and makes sure these facilities have the electrical backbone they need to operate safely and efficiently.”

In the education sector, the company has completed projects including Page Middle School, where it delivered a full electrical package covering lighting, power distribution, fire alarm systems, and technology infrastructure. Similar work was carried out at Explore! Community School in Nashville, where A&S Electric installed the systems required to support flexible learning environments. Additional projects include work at Meharry Medical College and Rocketship Schools, each requiring a tailored approach to meet the specific needs of medical education and primary learning environments.
The company’s work also extends into Nashville’s high-end restaurant sector, where it has contributed to projects including The Rutledge, Halls Chophouse, Halls CATCH, and Harper’s. These projects require a different level of coordination, balancing technical performance with design intent. “It’s not just about getting power in the walls, but about creating an atmosphere,” Allen said. “Our team understands that, and we take a lot of pride in bringing that vision to life.”

Across all of these sectors, Allen points to three factors that define the company’s success: quality workmanship, long-term relationships, and the ability to perform in complex environments. “We take a lot of pride in doing the job right the first time; no shortcuts, no excuses,” he said. “A lot of our partnerships go back decades because we communicate clearly, we show up when we say we will, and we stand behind our work. And our ability to perform in complex environments comes down to precision, coordination, and reliability.”
Underlying each of these elements is the company’s workforce. “None of this would be possible without our team,” Allen said. “We’re a company built on people and pride.” As the company has grown, maintaining that culture has remained a priority, ensuring that employees are supported while continuing to deliver at a high level.
Looking ahead, A&S Electric expects continued growth across Middle Tennessee in 2026, both in terms of project volume and the complexity of work undertaken. “A&S has grown steadily year after year, and I don’t expect 2026 to be any different,” Allen said. “We’re focused, we’re prepared, and we have the right people in place to keep moving forward.” The company is also expanding its capabilities in critical infrastructure systems, strengthening relationships with regional general contractors, and investing in workforce development to support larger projects.
Among upcoming work, the company has secured the full electrical scope for the TDOS Meleta Headquarters project, a development that reflects the scale and technical demands of its current pipeline. “It’s exactly the kind of high-profile, high demand project that reflects the direction we’re headed,” Allen said.
As A&S Electric continues to build on its four-decade history, its trajectory remains grounded in the same principles that defined its early years. Through a combination of technical expertise, long-standing relationships, and a focus on consistent delivery, the company continues to play a central role in shaping the infrastructure that supports Middle Tennessee’s growth.
